3rd Annual St Mary's Chinese New Year Breakfast breaks record!

The 3rd Annual St Mary's Chinese New Year Breakfast attracted a manageable size turn out after the Sunday Divine Liturgy and Church School. Preparation as compared to previous years is better organized in getting the parish family together to fellowship and helping whether in setting up, decorating, kitchen prep, serving food or cleaning up afterwards, which comes with experience each year.

This year for the first time we have special Chinese calligraphy with words of prosperity done on red banners. Also hanging from the ceiling were special paper lanterns stapled together from red Chinese envelopes, which are normally used to put money in by married couples to give to children during Chinese New Year.

The entrée served this year included Beef Chow Foon and Chiu Chow Fried Rice taken out from Chinatown, and supplemented by parishioner-donated Indonesian noodles. In the kitchen, volunteers were busy boiling pork dumplings and then either steaming or pan-frying them to a golden brown and serving them continuously throughout the meal.

The Breakfast took in a total donation of $1,366, with a net revenue of $1,243 after expenses. This gave us a net profit margin of 91% which is an 11% increase compared to either of the prior two years. This profit increase is made possible due to the labor of love and the additional donations of drinks, side dishes, cakes, clementines, desserts, and cupcakes provided by fellow parishioners.
